Non Woven geotextile separation fabric, also known as non Woven Geotextile, is often made of polyester or polypropylene fibers by loosing, carding, laying nets, needling and other production processes. The non woven geotextile mainly includes short fiber needle punched geotextile fabric and and Polyester filament geotextile fabric. And based on client project design, they chose short fiber needle punched geotextile.
What Are Characteristics Of Geotextile Separation Fabric?
Geotextile separation fabric is a specific type of geotextile that is designed to prevent the mixing of different soil layers, provide filtration, and enhance the overall stability of construction projects. Here are the key characteristics of geotextile separation fabric:
Separation:
- Geotextile separation fabric prevents the mixing of dissimilar soil layers (such as aggregate and subgrade soil) by acting as a barrier. This separation helps maintain the integrity and performance of each layer.
Filtration:
- It allows water to pass through while retaining soil particles, preventing clogging of drainage systems and maintaining the flow of water within the structure.
Strength and Durability:
- Geotextile separation fabrics are engineered to have high tensile strength and puncture resistance, providing stability and longevity to the construction project.
Permeability:
- These fabrics are permeable, allowing water to flow through freely while preventing the loss of fine particles from the soil structure.
Compatibility:
- Geotextile separation fabrics are typically chemically inert and compatible with a wide range of soil types, making them versatile for various construction applications.
UV Resistance:
- Some geotextile separation fabrics are designed to resist degradation from exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, ensuring long-term performance in outdoor applications.
Case Study
BPM Serbia customer got a tender for municipal construction of local government. They needed large quantities of high quality non woven geotextile separation fabric, and they asked BPM technical properties and certificate to check whether can satisfy their project design. After confirmation, BPM short fiber non woven geotextile is 20% higher than client required properties.
Challenges
The non woven geotextile separation fabric is mainly to improve the bearing capacity of pavement and solve the problem of structural damage in the course of pavement use, shock absorption, anti deformation, make the load and stress of pavement more uniform for the municipal project. And considering the problems met before, client mentioned the stitching problem during installation.
Solution
BPM team told customer that all stitches by sewing machine must be continuous and geotextiles must overlap at least 150mm, the minimum stitching distance is at least 25 mm from the knitting edge (the exposed edge of the material). Special attention should be paid to ensuring that no soil or gravel enters the middle of geotextiles. After that they asked for some short fiber needle punched samples for third party testing for final confirmation and purchase.
Specifications of Geotextile Separation Fabric for Municipal Project in Serbia
- Total quantity – 64500 squares meters
